Re: Leonard Maltin: Thumbs Up on SMILEAGE GUARANTEED/ LAME B

Richard, it appears that you got something that you wanted; a critic that understood why you and your co-authors wrote the book. Congratulations! The wife and I are having a party this weekend. I have color printed and framed a copy of Maltin's review on "Smileage". It is sitting next to y...

Re: Walter Catlett

Ed, Frank Cullen cited you as source information 2 or 3 times in the section on Bob Woolsey in his book. It's the reason I quoted it in my response to Eric; I thought you might have something to do with the information being reliable.

Re: Walter Catlett

Hey, Eric- Just a little misguided sarcasm on my part about Catlett being a "Woolsey impersonator." It was actually the other way around. I quote Frank Cullen: "(Woolsey) did get a job in upstate New York with a stock company whose star was comedian Walter Catlett. Walter took Bob und...

Re: Walter Catlett

Catlett had somewhat of a catch phrase that he used from time to time, "Holy Cats!", when something startled him in a film. Can anyone else help us beat this cat thing to death? Please join in. What I am looking for is any unusual source material on comedian and catman, Walter Catlett. Any...

Walter Catlett

I'm trying to rundown some information on Walter Catlett, comedic actor and Woolsey impersonator. He actually spent two periods in film. A time in silent films during the teens, then a break, appearing on Broadway until 1929(?), and a return to film in talkies. Can anyone help me with dates, suggest...

"Too Much Johnson"

At first, I thought RMR had written an article about Gary Johnson, but I think it has more to do with Orson Welles. Check it out.

Re: SMILEAGE GUARANTEED HAL ROACH BOOK ON SALE NOW!

Thanks for reminding me, Mike. Those were happy times, when Brian Anthony and I borrowed professional equipment and conducted interviews with old friends. As Brian and I set up in June's home, my wife Sabine and June were busy in the kitchen making real lemonade with a juicer and sugar. June was a ...

Re: SMILEAGE GUARANTEED HAL ROACH BOOK ON SALE NOW!

Nitpick Nitpick. We go with the official version. Show me proof Pappy Parrott was a "bookie", not like there's a lot of difference between them and bankers these days anyway. So I'm watching "Becoming Charley Chase" the other night with the wife, trying to get her interested in ...

Re: SMILEAGE GUARANTEED HAL ROACH BOOK ON SALE NOW!

Richard-
Loved the fact that the Brothers Parrott were front and center on a book about Hal Roach Studios. One exception, you misspelled the occupation of Charley and Jimmie's father. It isn't "banker", it's spelled "bookie." I'm sure it will be corrected in a later edition.

Re: Columbia Charley Chase Shorts to be Released on 1/1

It's the cost of the transfers. I had read (I believe on FB) that the only reason this collection got released is because the transfer work had already been done over a decade ago and so they were just sitting on a shelf ready to go. Mike Schelesinger at Sony played a major part in getting the Chas...
