Re: FRANKLY: UNMASKING FRANK CAPRA by Joseph McBride

The fact that McBride had to self-publish this through Vervante, suggests the mainstream publishing/academic press wagons are still circled.

Unknown Lloyd Hamilton Clips

This little mini-doc on the French Arte website is about the use of pastry in silent comedy. There are two clips of a Lloyd Hamilton silent that are new to me. The first is the opening clip and the second, with the same oversized American flags, is in the middle. The fact that these clips are not ID...

Re: Larry Semon DVDs

Here is a set from Alpha Video that has some titles not on the Grapevine sets. Alpha’s quality peaks out at “just OK”, but at least you’re only out $6.

Re: Ron Hutchison passes away

Some speech was scheduled for last night, but instead of watching it, I decided to pay tribute to Ron by watching one of his Vitaphone discs. I think he'd approve.

Re: Saw STAN AND OLLIE last night.....

Missed opportunities indeed. The rift over “that elephant movie” which provides the central conflict could easily have been written as something grounded in reality. For example, Stan had no problem fighting Hal Roach tooth and nail for artistic control, but apparently went into a deep depression up...

Re: MAID IN MOROCCO (1925) Lupino Lane

I don't know how the stunt was done but it strikes me that this would make a great animated GIF with Lane going round and round, assuming a better quality video could be found.
