The little guy in the Billy Franey, Alice Howell, and Monty Banks comedies name was E. Vilip. This fellow in THE MOVIE HOUND is actually George Atterbury who was a stage partner of Lupino Lane and his valet for many years (he continued working for Violet Blythe after Lane's death). The mean old man is Michael Visaroff, who also plays Mabel Normand's no-good father in THE NICKEL HOPPER.

Don't forget that Luke wasn't completely dead in 1917, as Roach tried to resuscitate him in 1921 with Gaylord Lloyd in the role. This group, that included THE LUCKY NUMBER, A ZERO HERO, TROLLEY TROUBLES, and ROUGH SEAS, really put the nails in Luke's coffin.

Yeah, that's definitely "the Duke." Years later Wayne wanted to rework this bit in THE SEARCHERS, but Ford hated Jack Miller.

There is a complete nitrate print of this at EYE Film in Amsterdam. I've seen a number of frame scans from it - a couple of which were used as illustrations in LAME BRAINS AND LUNATICS (pgs. 289 and 302).
