Re: Becoming Mr. Laurel

This won't be a fresh observation, and I may have things skewed, but as a kid reading the various Roach interviews published and quoted from in the 70s, long before Randy Skretvedt's book appeared, I noticed that Roach made pointed mention of Stan Laurel's perceived failings as a story construction...

Re: Becoming Mr. Laurel

Oh for Pete's sake Hal, just get over it! Well, Hal Roach's secret plan was to outlive all his comedians so he could tell the story HIS way. So he even outlived the majority of his Our Gang kids. Oh, and there's some more proof for the folk who want to run silent films at 12 frames per second! RICH...

No, I think he's fourth from right. Is this from THE CHAUFFEUR (1921)?

Re: Licensing or ...?

Just what is going on on the German DVD market? Some strange similarities to the US "Silent Comedy Mafia" DVD here: http://www.amazon.de/Die-Stummfilm-Mafia-Stan-Laurel/dp/B0013EIK54/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1256064248&sr=1-1 And suddenly Weiss(orama)n shorts show up as we...

Re: BECOMING CHARLEY CHASE Review

Of course, though fascinating, early Keystones sans Arbuckle or Chaplin can be a bit challenging to truly "enjoy

Sez You Ruedel! I find Keystones with Ford Sterling, Mabel Normand, Charlie Murray, and even Charley Chase and Fritz Schade no challenge at all to enjoy.

Re: Sennett 1930/31 Color shorts

Here's an interesting question which I'm posting on behalf of fellow color film researcher, James Layton. Maybe Richard or Brent, or anyone else of course, can chime in? James wonders: "I understand few of the Sennett Color shorts from 1930-31 survive now. Does anyone know which ones do and wh...

Re: Larry Semon Movies

Could someone help me out and tell me if there is a better depository of research material on Larry Semon films? The Herrick has very few/no film stills from his movies. Perhaps Semon didn't have stills taken in his productions? Or maybe the collection is housed somewhere else. Also, I've bought al...
