Re: Frank Thompson's THE COMPLEAT BEAU GESTE on sale now
I just received my copy this morning from Amazon. Spending several hours with it I can honestly say that THE COMPLEAT BEAU GESTE is an amazing, engrossing and comprehensive book covering every film related to BEAU GESTE, plus a whole lot more. It reminds me of Kevin Brownlow's THE PARADE'S GONE BY i...

Billy Bevan & Jimmy Finlayson FOR THE DEFENSE 1930
William Powell-Kay Francis Paramount drama with a cute silent cameo by Billy Bevan at the 21-minute mark. Jimmy Finlayson crops up 43 minutes in, a substantial straight role in which Fin loses his Scottish burr. (William McCall and Rolfe Sedan spotted early on in the juror box.) https://youtu.be/rSF...

Re: Flicker Alley - Laurel & Hardy: Year One - Blu-ray
As much as I am looking forward to these beautiful restorations, I'm hoping that the obnoxious, ten-ton orchestration to THE BATTLE OF THE CENTURY (found on the L&H Definitive Restorations set) is not repeated here. Talk about trying to be funnier than Laurel & Hardy!

Von Stroheim does the saber dance LA DANSE DE MORT 1946
One of the rarest and most sought-after Erich von Stroheim films made during his French exile, LA DANSE DE MORT was restored a few years ago and quietly flew under the radar. Von adapted Strindberg's play and wrote the screenplay (as typical for Erich, other scribes subsequently added their own two ...

Re: STOOGE O-RAMA: THE MEN BEHIND THE MAYHEM - AND EVEN MORE MAYHEM!
Received my copy today - and spent the last 3 hours revelling in its many delights. Dinner break, and then we'll likely watch another 3 hours before continuing tomorrow. Today is proving the best and most enjoyable way to spend a Monday! Amazing footage of all the Stooges, most of it new to me; the ...

Re: GIRL CRAZY (1929) Andy Clyde, Vernon Dent, Alma Bennett
And just like that, this account was closed by YouTube. Must've been due to that 1929 version of SEVEN KEYS TO BALDPATE with Richard Dix that wasn't yet at PD status. I'm glad I got to see both of these films, the '29 BALDPATE was extremely good and a lively adaptation.

Re: Buster Keaton in The Faye Emerson Show, Nov 18, 1950
I'm making a disclaimer here. A couple of people contacted me offsite asking about the additional items on Eureka!'s THREE AGES Blu-ray. I do not know what has been finalized regarding extras, except that the above were under consideration in the Fall of 2022. The one certainty is that they are not...

Erich von Stroheim returns to Vienna (1948)
1948: Erich von Stroheim returns to Vienna for the first time since 1930 for the filming of LE SIGNAL ROUGE, a French film directed by Ernst Neubach. Together with him is the rest of the cast: his partner Denise Vernac; Claude Chenard; and Franck Villard. Denise later recalled that she had never see...
