Re: Lou Costello on "Wagon Train" - March 2

I've never seen Dance with Me Henry, but Lou certainly pushes the limits of nausea in 30-Foot Bride of Candy Rock. Jerry Lewis in The Jazz Singer? You mean Danny Thomas? Neil Diamond? Or is Lewis's Jazz Singer the lost masterpiece he made after The Day the Clown Cried?

Re: 1927: The Beginning of the End?

Well, if I were an exhibitor with a family to feed, and I had to rent Gold Rush for $500 only to see it earn $475, I'd call it a flop. But if I rented Behind the Front for $100 and it earned $200, I'd call it a hit. But as a savvy businessman, I'd still rent the loss leaders if only to prevent my au...

Re: MYSTERY HAM AND BUD STILL

I wonder if this was a gag still from the period when Ham was actually laid up in the hospital after the accident that shattered his leg. It looks like he could have been costumed and made up from the waist up and photographed while being visited by his cast and crew members. Could one of the non-ac...

Re: Agee's Lost Films of Laurel & Hardy HAVE ARRIVED

Look at "They Go Boom". The original disc from ten years ago had the dialogue out of sync. If it's still out of sync, that's evidence that Michael/Lou simply burned copies from and repackaged his old discs. Which isn't to say you got ripped off. Used copies of the original pressings of Los...

Re: Max Davidson/Female Comedy DVD question

This set is well worth getting especially since TCM has scheduled only five Todd/Pitts/Kelly shorts in their Roach marathon next month. Does anyone know if this will be encoded as region-free?

Re: Max Davidson/Female Comedy DVD question

I saw Going Ga-Ga at a MoMA screening years ago and it is so fragmentary as to be incomprehensible. What survives is less than a reel of scraps.
