Don Pardo RIP

I guess I'll start off the Passing Parade with this, although it would have fit in either Classic Radio ro Classic Television just as well. Don Pardo passed away Monday at his home in Tucson, Arizona: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/19/nyregion/don-pardo-the-voice-of-saturday-night-live-dies-at-96.ht...

LADY GODIVA (1911) Vitagraph

Here's an interesting early version of the historical legend, alas, utilizing the same hair-hiding-everything get-up Maureen O'Hara went for decades later, but an early Vitagraph Epic featuring Julia Swayne Gordon, Robert Gaillard, Kate Price (stop trembling, she doen't play Godiva), and Clara Kimba...

Re: MACK SENNETT COLLECTION VOL 1 Blu-Ray

Up to four five-star reviews today, and I particularly like a quote from Rift Corbett (who joined here some time ago, hello Rift, feel free to post something once in awhile): "Let's take "Fatty and Mabel Adrift" by far the best it has ever looked on home video and most importantly it ...

Re: Laurel and Hardy on Stage book / CD set

Quietly released and now ready for online order, apparently: http://www.laurelandhardyonstage.com/ Uli I can highly recommend this book to one and all, it's chock full of rare photos from their Denmark Tour of 1947, it's delightful to hear not one, but TWO audio versions of the "Driver's Licen...

Re: Capitolfest 2014 review

The irony is that several archives have been working to restore the sound version of HIGH TREASON for a number of years, and what bits of it I had seen foretold it to be an early-talkie stinker, but the silent version has been around a long time and is a much better film, stylish, fluid, and Benita ...

Robin Williams Gone

So we come home from the Bill "Wallace" Thompson Memorial Service last night to find out that Robin Williams has killed himself.
