Re: THE HOLLYWOOD KID (1924) Reel Two

I just skimmed through the reel but it appears that Ben Turpin's cameo is missing from this YouTube version -- Turpin appears in my two-reel print which Paul Gierucki is using in the next Mack Sennett volume.

Re: BLAZING AWAY (1928) Lloyd Hamilton

Incidentally, the phrase "Was I drunk" etc. is referenced in a gag spoken by Buster Keaton (of all people) near the start of THE PASSIONATE PLUMBER (1932).

Re: BLAZING AWAY (1928) Lloyd Hamilton

Thanks Tommie,

I had no idea on the origin of that copy so I'm glad that you stepped forward. That's an excellent job you did, remaking the Educational title cards. Do you know the source of the foreign print, and whether they had other silent comedies?

Re: LA TIMES -- BEST DVDs OF 2014 (MACK SENNETT COLLECTION)

I love the Chaplin Mutuals (shown at the correct speed for silent comedy and not in slo-mo) but seriously, it's the Sennett Collection that deserves all the attention and where Flicker Alley should be directing their publicity. I don't need another Chaplin Mutuals set, thank you very much.

BLAZING AWAY (1928) Lloyd Hamilton

I just found this title tucked away on an old USB stick from 2007. Don't know the provenance on this but it doesn't appear to have been shared previously. The added music suggests a Videobrary or Grapevine release although I haven't found it in either collection. At any rate, it's one of the better ...

Re: LOS ANGELES TIMES -- BEST DVDs OF 2014

An honor indeed, and well-deserved, Paul (and Brittany, Richard, Brent, Steve, Stan, Bruce, Doug -- and everyone else who contributed to this magnificent set). Looking forward to Langdon, Arbuckle, volume two of Mack Sennett, and whatever else you offer us in the New Year!

Re: APRIL FOOL (1920) reel two with Lloyd Hamilton

For whatever it's worth, Jules White told me that Stan Laurel's brother Teddy worked for Jack White at Educational as a handyman. "He was broke, English, and we let him sleep at the studio." I don't know when Teddy came to America, and Jules' memory might've been playing a trick on him, bu...

TRAMP, TRAMP, TRAMP (1926) - Harry Langdon
In BERLIN: SYMPHONY OF A CITY, an audience is seen watching THE GOLD RUSH (only the edge of the screen is shown, revealing the tramp's feet walking in the snow)

Re: Ted Healy bio out December 15th

LOL, Gary! I wasn't even referring to Healy's death! But thanks for the riposte -- and for not tearing down Ted Healy on the basis of fabricated stories -- attributed to certain members of "The Three Stooges" -- after their deaths.

Ted Healy bio out December 15th

Bill Cassara's long-awaited biography/film study of Ted Healy NOBODY'S STOOGE will be published by Bear Manor Media on December 15th. Frankly speaking, a lot of the truth about Ted Healy will finally be revealed -- and that's because Bill is the first author to actually dig up the facts: http://www....
