Re: Behind the Scenes Footage on DAY THE CLOWN CRIED
So, over on Nutrateville, Jim Neibaur says : "Whenever I see more discussion on DAY THE CLOWN CRIED I think, "why is this still such a big deal?"" Well, it doesn;t look like anyone but Neibaur is trying to discuss it. Then again, what can one expect from anyone who believes ever...

Re: Behind the Scenes Footage on DAY THE CLOWN CRIED
According to Jim Neibaur, whom I would trust on this point, the film was never even made. Only a few clips/scenes were ever actually filmed. The only thing that really exists in its entirety is the script ... which would certainly fit with the scriptwriter's claim that she owned the rights, not Lewi...

Re: Cinevent Notes Past: NO MANS LAW (1927) w/ Oliver Hardy
This has always been one of my favorite silents - just for the off-beat casting alone. It's a shame Laurel was never given his chance to shine in a Roach drama at this time, as all of the other top comics did. In fact, why not all four of the studios top comedians together in one Roach super produc...

Re: Behind the Scenes Footage on DAY THE CLOWN CRIED
Well, that answers my question as to why Lewis doesn't just burn the damned thing to fulfil his vow that it will never be released. Does that European archive really think it's going to get "a six-figure sum" to pay off the costs when he dies? I'd love to see the section in his will where ...

Re: SMILEAGE GUARANTEED HAL ROACH BOOK ON SALE NOW!
However, I doubt that she would have euphoric recall about about "Pappy Parrott" being a bookie rather than a banker. You're wrong about that. Having a bookie for your ancestor is far more titillating and exciting than having a banker for your ancestor. As long as both of them are dead an...

Re: SMILEAGE GUARANTEED HAL ROACH BOOK ON SALE NOW!
Just finished reading RIchard's book and have two questions. 1) Page 187, top photo, the girl on the left is "unknown". But directly across the page, on 186, the photo for "The Caretaker's Daughter" shows what appears to be the same girl, here identified as Claudia Dell. Check th...

Still ... "the undisputed King of Comedy"?
Rupert Pupkin isn't the only one who would, indeed, dispute it.

Re: Errol Flynn does the "Mirror Routine"
I've always thought that the routine in DUCK SOUP could had used a few more rehearsals. The longer it goes on the more sloppy it gets. Harpo keeps anticipating moves that Groucho hasn't made yet. I guess McCarey was busy noodling at the piano and didn't notice.......or found it funnier that way. It...

Re: Errol Flynn does the "Mirror Routine"
Last night I watched Norman Wisdom's The Square Peg , and damned if the mirror routine didn't show up in that one, too. What I found most interesting about it was that, whereas all other versions I've seen looked polished (pun intended), Wisdom looked like he and his stand-in (playing the double) we...
