Re: Blackhawk Bulletins Online

Was there ever a thrill to match the arrival of a new Blackhawk Bulletin in the mail? As a teen in the early '70's, the thrill was only matched by the sorrow of picking the ONE film I could afford to buy; although, my dad would often surprise me for Christmas by purchasing the three "nationally...

Re: Dealing With Fan Mail.....

Having been on the firing end of criticism myself (albeit generally not regarding writing about film), I find this kind of writing very therapeutic. One of my pet expressions is "Life is too short to be miserable". Richard, as the old saying goes, you've probably forgotten more about silen...

Re: Super Secret Discount Code for Mack Sennett Vol. 1

For those of you who don't have it yet, I can't recommend it highly enough. Grab it now, it'll be fun prep work for the forthcoming Volume Two. The films look great, the scores are entertaining, and the commentaries are very worthwhile. I can't get over how the Sennett comedies improved from 1916 on...

Re: Nitrateville Answer Dept:Help identify one silent nitrate fragment

Whoops! Guess I was too late. Paul Penna, Jim Roots, and Steve Massa identified the stars (no surprise, there!). The original poster figured out the film's title (probably as I did, by reading your post, Richard).

This doesn't seem to be fully answered yet on N-ville. May I quote you (or anonymously, if you wish)?

Re: Brats - Silent Version

I may be totally wrong, but I think the answer might be "yes". Or at least it exists somewhere. I used to have a silent 8mm Blackhawk print. It seemed to me the intertitles must have been of original vintage, as the font "looked" authentic, as opposed to the more modern looking t...

What's the back story of this film? I don't think I've heard of it before. Is the fishing scene by any chance the film that accompanied his stage appearance in MERTON OF THE MOVIES with Jane Dulo?

Re: Ten Years of Silent Comedy Mafia.com

Happy Anniversary! And I am so happy to be back. I was always here just lurking because I had computer problems and the website froze me out for a while for unknown reasons and then my email got corrupted and it was email through which I was registered here so I've been forced to lurk for a long ti...

Re: Nitrateville General Jackassery: Happy Anniversary Silent Comedy Mafia

I'm fond of saying that life is too short to be miserable. To Silents Please, I say, sweet macaroons, pick your battles. Time is better spent enjoying and discussing classic films. Everyone may not always agree with you, Richard, but they can certainly learn a lot from you. I know I have.
