Re: Rare silent comedy shorts found

What's the plot of the Duffy movie? Any other recognizable cast members? There are more than a few folks on this board that could ID it for you.

Raised Eyebrows Author and Dick Cavett Interviewed

Thanks to Paul for sharing the NYT article about Dick Cavett's memories of Groucho's last years. Here are two podcasts that cover the same territory. Raised Eyebrows author Steve Stoliar interviewed by Elvis Mitchell on KCRW's The Treatment: http://www.kcrw.com/etc/programs/tt/tt111221steve_stoliar_...

Re: Maurice Zouary (1921 - 2010)

Most of Zouary's prints can be seen in LC's online catalog. The ones I've seen are 16mm Atlas TV prints in very rough shape. In addition, many of the two-reelers have been cut to 13 minutes to allow two shorts to be shown in a 30-minute time slot allowing for commecials. This was the case with the t...

Re: Will Rogers in State Fair on TCM

Jim, way back in the late 1970s or early 80s I drove through Claremont and was astonished to discover their 16mm film collection consisting of Rogers films that were totally out of reach for even the most avid buffs. They generally screened two films a day in rotation. I planned to return to Claremo...

Will Rogers in State Fair on TCM

The 1933 version of State Fair will be on TCM this Weds. at 8:00pm EST. Unless you were one of the very few who caught it on the Fox Movie Channel, this has been very difficult to see outside of the 'Cons and 'Fests. It's nice to see some of the Fox classics ported over to TCM.

Our Own Joe Adamson Gets a Shout-Out

"Groucho, Harpo, Chico and Sometimes Zeppo" is listed among the best film books ever written in Matt Zoller Seitz's article in Salon: "Film Criticism 101: The Essential Library". Joes's page is here: http://www.salon.com/2011/10/21/film_criticism_101_the_essential_library/slide_s...

What's a Head Press For...

...other than to crush craniums in slapstick comedies? I'm talking about this: http://slapsticon.org/Curly_head_press.gif . Watching Arbuckle's "Back Stage" it seems like every well-appointed office had one but it's real purpose eludes me. Seems like a lot of hardware to have around just t...
