Re: SLAPSTICON 2010 to unveil lost and unknown Chaplin Film
I've been scanning CC's Autobiography to see if he says anything about being thrown in with the Keystone Cops. No luck. I half remember a memoir or an interview where he refers to this. Can anyone find the exact quote? I don't have Charlie Chaplin Interviews, but it could be in there. Exciting time...

Newspaper ad for "Thief Catcher" and another mystery
I found an ad for a May 1915 reissue of "The Thief Catcher" in the Syracuse (NY) Journal, which advertised it as a Chaplin film. Being incapable of posting images here, I put it up on the "Just Others" part of Slapsticon's Facebook page. If someone who can post images would like ...

Re: New Independent Feature on Mabel Normand
The "trailer," I'm sure, is nothing more than an attempt to spur interest in the screenplay. Frankly, I think it accomplishes exactly the opposite. Maybe it would've gone over better if they'd gotten the girl from the Dunkin Donuts commercial. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jH9_jKbU48 Mic...

Re: Silent "Our Gang" question (not the usual one)
Onyx Pictures has caused all sorts of interest in anyone studying Hal Roach due to their publicity flyer that basically listed all the Hal Roach titles released by Pathe as their catalog. Yet I have never come upon one 16mm print of any Hal Roach title that I can trace to being an Onyx print. So I ...

Silent "Our Gang" question (not the usual one)
I've just spent a few dan-dan-dandy hours perusing old issues of THE BILLBOARD on Google Books, and came across something: a couple of articles (from 1955 and '56, respectively) that mention a package of silent "Our Gangs" having gone into distribution, courtesy of "Onyx Picture Corpo...

Re: Initiating the Young (or "What Worked for YOU?")
Some very helpful stuff here, folks - thank you! Richard: I love the ITS A GIFT sequence, too... but I didn't see WHEN COMEDY WAS KING (or GOLDEN AGE OF COMEDY) until I was in my late teens. My outstanding memories of DAYS OF THRILLS AND LAUGHTER, the only Youngson I saw in my single-digit years, we...

Re: Initiating the Young (or "What Worked for YOU?")
Brent, Yes, I'm the author of MY NAME'S FRIDAY. Thank you for the compliment; I'm glad you enjoyed it. I have a new book out that you might enjoy as much: http://www.bearmanormedia.bizland.com/id392.html The Youngson compilations are probably a good start... I just wish they had used a little less B...

Initiating the Young (or "What Worked for YOU?")
To the Mafiosi: My earliest recollection of silent comedy is viewing "Days of Thrills and Laughter" on TV and screaming at the scenes from "The Adventurer" and "The Cure." This led to discovering the complete shorts over NYC's WNET (pre-PBS), which ran a Chaplin program...

Re: Behind the scenes still at the Hal Roach Studio
Okay, I'm 1 for 1. Could that be Hal Yates between McGowan and Chase? It looks like the same fellow identifed as Yates in Maltin/Bann's "Little Rascals" book, page 3.
And I'm thinking the fellow drawing on the ground at right is Mr. Roach himself.

Is that Robert McGowan standing (or leaning) at far left?
