Re: Billie Ritchie's Salary at L-Ko

I'm looking at a small piece in the September 23, 1916 issue of the Titusville (PA) Herald , page 5, touting the newest Ritchie comedy for L-Ko, FALSE FRIENDS AND FIRE ALARMS. After touting the merits of the comedy itself, the article goes on to say: "He is becoming one of the favorite comedia...

Gary Johnson wrote:What was behind Sennett's thinking at this time to expand the production schedule to include 2-reelers - artistic integrity or a chance for larger profits?

Yes.

Re: Unidentified comedy western

Thank you so much for all of your help. I really appreciate it. I was beginning to circle around THREE FACES WEST myself after Steve's comment about STEPPING IN THE GAS, but was struggling to find a synopsis or a contemporary image to confirm it, so I am glad that you confirmed it for me Richard. T...

Re: Unidentified comedy western

Yep, this is another of those J.C. Cook-Sovereign-Sun Pictures two-reelers called THREE FACES WEST (1927). The star is Kenneth MacDonald, who's in the suit, and the plaid shirt, the heavy-set guy is Cliff Cook, the gal is Clara Horton, and the older guy is MIlton Fahrney, and, of course, MIlburn Mor...

Re: Unidentified comedy western

I wish you could post larger pics of these frame grabs, they blow up pretty fuzzy.

Re: Unidentified comedy western

Post all of the images you have, I'm still not convinced that this is necessarily a western.

Linda says "hi" back to Karen and Ed, as do I.

Re: Unidentified comedy western

Who appears to play the lead? Is it Chesebro? I know Chesebro and Morante appear together in WOLFS BLOOD (1925), but that's a logging story, not a mining story. Both Morante and Chesebro worked endlessly in the independent film industry in the 20's and 30's and still have a good deal of unidentified...

Re: Motion Picture Studio Directory & Trade Annual

Well, I'm working from memory here, but Gertrude Selby was credited with being in SIN ON THE SABBATH (12/08/1915) which I've seen twice and starred Louise Orth and Alice Howell, but I don't recall having seen Selby in it, nor have I ever seen her credited for this film anywhere else. And Universal ...

Re: Motion Picture Studio Directory & Trade Annual

Can anyone confirm that the biographies and credits included therein were always submitted by the individuals themselves rather than compiled by the staff? I found a form for submission in the back of the 1918 edition, but a quick perusal (perhaps too quick) of the 1916 edition did not reveal a for...
