Buster Keaton: Pie-Throwing with The Keystone Cops

Buster's July 6, 1950 guest appearance on The Ed Wynn Show, demonstrating the art of pie-throwing with assistance from The Keystone Cops (Hank Mann, Chester Conklin, Tiny Ward and Heinie Conklin). This is taken from an edited clip, copied by Lord-Knows-Who, which eventually made its way to me on a f...

Re: Keaton's 1947 two-reeler UN DUEL À MORT now on DVD/Blu-Ray

Agreed, Chris - Buster's performance in MORT is spot-on perfect. But I have renewed respect for Jules White as a comedy director when comparing the dueling scene from SHE'S OIL MINE with the version in UN DUEL À MORT. The pacing, timing and presentation overall in Buster's final Columbia short - plu...

Re: Keaton's 1947 two-reeler UN DUEL À MORT now on DVD/Blu-Ray

What's the back story of this film? I don't think I've heard of it before. Is the fishing scene by any chance the film that accompanied his stage appearance in MERTON OF THE MOVIES with Jane Dulo? Even though UN DUEL À MORT is listed in just about every Buster Keaton filmography, it usually receive...

Keaton's 1947 two-reeler UN DUEL À MORT now on DVD/Blu-Ray

One of the Buster Keaton's rarest films, UN DUEL À MORT (A DUEL TO THE DEATH) is now available as an extra on Lobster Film's latest BK release. It's the fifth (of 6 or 7) iterations of Buster's famous dueling scene that he performed seemingly everywhere - on stage, screen, TV and even state fairs, i...

Last chance to get THE CHARLEY CHASE SCRAPBOOK

THE CHARLEY CHASE SCRAPBOOK by my friends Brian Anthony and Bill Walker is out of print, but a handful of copies were recently discovered in the publisher's warehouse. This is the last chance to obtain a copy of this beautiful volume, the book will not be reprinted. For anyone interested, here's the...

Re: FRANKLY: UNMASKING FRANK CAPRA by Joseph McBride

The fact that McBride had to self-publish this through Vervante, suggests the mainstream publishing/academic press wagons are still circled. That might very well be the case, Rob. I can add that Amazon blocked this book to overseas customers -- even though they ship every other Vervante book throug...

Caveat emptor: Cohen Media's SEVEN CHANCES

Cohen Media's BluRay restoration of SEVEN CHANCES was released in France recently with little fanfare. If you have Kino's 2011 BluRay with Eric Grayson's restoration of the Technicolor prologue, you may want to see what Cohen Media released as an alternative. Kino Lorber: KL.jpg Cohen Media: CM.jpg ...
