Re: THE STEEPLECHASER (1922) Educational Mermaid Comedy
So everyone here thinks it's normal to dub dialog to a silent comedy? Call me old-fashioned but where in the hell is the color??? No, not dialogue, when one doesn't particularly understand the language, the language becomes more of a sound effect, and it's punctuation of the gags seems to work, esp...

Re: THE STEEPLECHASER (1922) Educational Mermaid Comedy
Apropos of very little, but my wife Diane and I watched this comedy. Diane is conversant in Italian. She thought the film was funny...but she thought the Italian dialogue was really funny. Makes me wish I paid attention when my Grandmother wanted to teach me Italian when I was a boy. What I find in...

ROARS AND UPROARS (1922) Jack Cooper and Bobby Ray
Continuing our adventures of Puck e Puck, here's a Chester Comedy from 1922 featuring Jack Cooper, Bobby Ray, Ernie Shields, and some cranky lions. And where else will you hear someone trying to do black stereotype dialects in italian: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDfrPRMFRRU RICHARD M ROBERTS

Re: THE STEEPLECHASER (1922) Educational Mermaid Comedy
Not to be confused with the Lige Conley FOX comedy 'THE STEEPLECHASE' made 4 years later! Who'd a thought?... http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7373/12088378144_8368992688.jpg Now, in fairness, the Fox Comedy is actually called THE STEEPLECHASE, not THE STEEPLECHASER. Only the imd(um)b gets them mixed ...

Re: GOLF BUG 1922 with Paul Parrott
This is a fun one. We showed it at Slapsticon a few years ago. Eddie Baker apparently was a voracious golfer in real life, but I don;t think wither of the Parrott Boys were more than occasional players.

Re: Hal Roach's Spat Family
Gary Johnson wrote: Whenever I watch any Roach product before L&H, all I see is Charley Chase influence. By the Thirties it's all Stan & Ollie's imprint. That early Roach stuff is great; The Spats, Eddie Boland, and Hunky & Dorrey may not be up the standard we get from Roach's later out...

Re: Martin & Lewis on the radio
Much harder, it seems, to find their complete TV shows! Yeah......why is that? Some of it's cut into bits, but plenty to look at here: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=martin+and+lewis+colgate+comedy+hour&page=1 Years ago, American Movie Classics (back when they were a decent channel...

THE STEEPLECHASER (1922) Educational Mermaid Comedy
I think this is the 1922 Educational Mermaid Comedy THE STEEPLECHASER with Lige Conley, Jimmie Adams and Spencer Bell. It's one of those Italian sound reissues with the wonderful dubbed voices. Here's it is in both Youtube parts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uxu8dv8zQk http://www.youtube.com/watc...

No Slapsticon for 2014
We're giving you folks the message here first: We have decided not to go forward with Slapsticon 2014 at Indiana University in Bloomington. Both personal and logistical reasons are in play here, and we definitely want to say that Indiana University Cinema is not to blame for any of these decisions. ...

THE GREAT RADIO COMEDIANS (1972)
For those who missed it when we ran it at Slapsticon a few years ago, here's that terrific PBS Documentary done in the 70's with great clips and then-new interviews with Edgar Bergen, Bing Crosby, George Burns, Jack Benny, Jim Jordan , and others: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrJNcGBZZkM RICHARD M...
