"Broadway" comic strips: Eddie Cantor
Eddie Cantor was the star attraction of the 1927 Ziegfeld Follies. In this edition, fellow comedian Andrew Tombes portrayed Florenz Ziegfeld and was a connecting link between various sketches. In these comic strips Tombes is wearing a silver-mane toupee and is dressed similarly to Ziegfeld's own sar...

Re: The Economists 1917
Thanks for sharing, David! Very enjoyable, and a Lennox Pawle discovery as well - to those who only know him as Mr. Dick in DAVID COPPERFIELD (1935), he's terrific here. What a shame he didn't have a two-reel comedy series - he could've been the Benny Hill of his day!

NOW WE'RE IN THE AIR 1927 Beery & Hatton, Louise Brooks
LB.jpg Starring Paramount's house team of Wallace Beery & Raymond Hatton, the attraction for most audiences today is the (too-brief) appearance of Louise Brooks. Approximately 22 minutes of the feature, based on elements from reels 2, 3 and 6, preserved in the Czech Film Archives, discovered by...

Thanks, Robert - the strips you posted did not show up in my search. There's still "gold" to be mined!

Harry Langdon for Swift Premium
With the theme of comedians (and Louise Brooks! - many thanks, Robert) appearing in comic strips, the following fits right in, and it just fell into my lap - literally. I was looking in a Kalton Lahue book this morning, and a yellowed clipping fell out - Harry Langdon & Lita Chevret in a pose fr...

"Broadway" comic strips Ted Healy
These quips sound like things Ted Healy's character would actually say, and the first gag here ended up in the Stooges' joke collection. The more you see of Ted in action, the more you realize how much The Boys' were indebted to Healy, as far as verbal material was concerned. Oct 22 1929 NYDN.jpg Ju...
