Re: C C Burr and east coast production - 1923 edition

C.C. Burr had a tiny film studio in the Glendale neighborhood of Queens, New York, when I believe he was producing the "Torchy" series with Johnny Hines prior to his features with Hines. Ed Finney told me that he worked for Burr during that time. I lived in Glendale, NY for over 20 years a...

Re: SMILEAGE GUARANTEED HAL ROACH BOOK ON SALE NOW!

Thanks for reminding me, Mike. Those were happy times, when Brian Anthony and I borrowed professional equipment and conducted interviews with old friends. As Brian and I set up in June's home, my wife Sabine and June were busy in the kitchen making real lemonade with a juicer and sugar. June was a g...

Re: Edgar Kennedy short THANKS AGAIN

Ed, I viewed the LoC's 35mm print there about 5 or 6 years ago. It was later shown at Cinefest 30, on March 27, 2010 (I wrote the Program Booklet notes for it, having seen it and being familiar with it). So, as Richard said, it's there somewhere. And, yes, it's a very funny one! Thanks, Rich! I kne...

Thanks Richard -- sorry it didn't make Slapsticon - I've heard it's pretty funny.

Edgar Kennedy short THANKS AGAIN

Can someone please tell me if Edgar Kennedy's RKO short THANKS AGAIN (1931) is located at LOC? I looked through their online database and couldn't find it, but the db seemed to be incomplete. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Errol Flynn does the "Mirror Routine"

It's Nick Stuart. I've seen him in some early talkies and also, confirmed it with Steve Massa ... So it must be him! Thanks Robert (and also Steve)! Incidentally, the photos you provided for Steve's superlative LAME BRAINS & LUNATICS are outstanding! Wish I could be there at Slapsticon with all...

Ed Watz wrote: Has anybody identified the Harold Lloyd one reeler (excerpted anonymously IIRC in Brownlow's THE THIRD GENIUS) where Harold and Gaylord do their version? Ed, I believe the Harold Lloyd one-reeler you mean is The Marathon (1918) which TCM screened earlier in May--here's my write up on...

Re: Richard M.Roberts Banned from Nitrateville

Well, I might have joined the bandwagon here save for the promise of scantilly-clad Max Davidson & Spec O'Donnell. Thoes cheesekake shots alone should be worth the price of the book. Wait until you see the photo of Charley Chase dressed in a girl's bathing suit on p. 103, Agnes. With pictures l...

Re: Maxine Semon

Can you please avoid being so vague in your responses Michael? Geez! You leave no stone unturned, do you! Thanks, Jim, and Joe. David Shepard was proofing my manuscript of the Mutual-Chaplin book. In one of his emails he wrote, "You are a jaw-dropping researcher." I only wish there was su...

Re: Marcel Perez, R.I.P.

Thank you Bob for sharing this important postscript on the demise of Marcel Perez. When I stayed at Mabel Langdon's home in 1979 she was living on Sweetzer Avenue in Hollywood, not far from from the Perez's family residence address that you had uncovered. I recall Mabel saying that the homes in that...
