Re: The Smith Family Series by Brent E. Walker

The only film from the series I've seen is on the Howdy Dowdy collection. From your description I'm assuming it's "Smith's Uncle". I'm wondering how the series affected Sennett's outlook on comedy since it's a deviation from his typical slapstick style and is an obvious audience grab towar...

Re: Extant Laurel Films

Most of the above Laurel titles are in the collection of Lobster Films, and Serge Bromberg has put most of them out on DVD in either Europe or America. Steve Does anyone know how Bromberg happen to aquire all of these titles? Is there a story behind it or just accumulated years of digging? Gary J.

Re: Packaging and Booklet for "American Slapstick v.2"

I see that but I would be much more interested in hearing
your views on the actual comedies included in the disc.

And that goes for everyone else on board.
Any reviews or analysis of "American Slapstick 2"?

Good Lord! I think David has a lot of time on his hands....

You spent more time on this booklet than I did reviewing disc 2 of Chases's shorts.

Re: Trying to Recall a Sennett Title

It is a great clip! And I've always assumed I've seen the entire film just because I recognize that chase but now I'm not so sure. The fact that Blackhawk had it in it's catalog at one time bodes well since that was my only exposure to Keystones way back then. And that's my main problem with the Key...

Re: Trying to Recall a Sennett Title

Why does that clip always end up in any retrospective of Sennett Keystones? Could it be that despite the reputation of Keystones being all 'mayhem and destruction', the reality is that the majority of the shorts produced in the teens were more along the lines of parodies of social comedies of the da...

Re: BECOMING CHARLEY CHASE Review

I hope this isn't too long winded but I've been mulling over the shorts on this disc for some time. Disc 2 Roach needed a new series and Chase was ready to return in front of the camera. The Jimmy Jump series proves how ready he was. Chase is off and running with his character of a middle class subu...

Now we know how Bo Peep lost her sheep.
She was sneaking behind The Old Shoe with Ollie-Dee, Stannie-Dum and Little Boy Blue lighting up!

Re: BECOMING CHARLEY CHASE Review

I tried commenting on Disc 1 a few months back but that thread went nowhere so I'll try again. Chase’s Keystone years is important not for his starring films but that he was allowed to first step behind the camera as director. His acting in these shorts is not subtle. Charley is following the standa...
