Re: Slapsticon 2010 Titles

Hopefully you can get at least Wednesday night and Sunday night included.

It would be hard to stay for the dinner and the Sunday late-night chat session if I then had to drive for 3 hours.

Re: Packaging and Booklet for "American Slapstick v.2"

Yes, David Kalat was . I believe that the booklet was intended to accompany the DVD set. It was planned for a release earlier in the year through Facets. When Facets delayed, then the deal fell through, VCI picked up the pressing and distribution of the set, but they were not able to accomodate the ...

Re: Slapsticon 2010

I didn't want to get anyone in trouble. I just saw that only 2 dates were listed, and I was concerned! Since the City of Arlington prevented having the festival in 2009, I was hoping that we weren't being chopped in half for next year. You know, we could make up the lost time by doubling 2010 and ha...

Slapsticon 2010

I looked on the Slapsticon website, and the dates listed are July 15-16.

Is this a misprint? I didn't think that the film festival was shortened to 2 days.
(Is it July yet?)

Re: Bill Frisell

I remain in complete concurrence with Richard. Silly me. I couldn't imagine musical accompaniment for silent comedy getting any worse than the Alloy Orchestra. Just goes to show, I guess. Jim K I am not familiar with Bill Frisell's scores, but you are saying that they are worse than the Allow Orche...

Re: Under the Radar

Charley Chase (in my opinion, just beyond amazing in the silents) had some hits and some misses in the talkies. One of Chase's last is "The Heckler" which was shown at Slapsticon a few years back. This one is truly funny. I hope that Columbia puts out their promised Chase set so that this ...

Re: Buster sells "Rilly Shave"

Tommie,
I think that they showed the Keaton commercials at the "I'd Like my Keaton Rare, Please" section at the first Slapsticon in 2003.

Yes, it is in 'Industrial Strength Keaton" . I believe that was Bruce Lawton's film that he used for "ISK".

Re: Locomotives and Comedy

I really liked it! I was not trying to be the copyright police. I just know that Suzanne Lloyd has a reputation for being very hard-nosed about copyright and her grandfather's image. That is one of the reasons that he is so poorly represented in compolations and retrospectives. What is sad is that t...

Re: Locomotives and Comedy

That is really well done. I grew up listening to Glen Miller (my father's favorite Big Band), so I really enjoyed that being paired with the silent clips. I don't think that I have ever seen silents paired with Big Bands before. I know that the theme was the train tie-in, but the Miller band and the...

Re: Time to think of Slapsticon 2010

Oh yes, I most definately realized that this weekend would have been Slapsticon. As soon as lunchtime Thursday hit, I had all I could do to keep my mind off of what I "should" be doing then ( and I was packing up a friend and helping her move, so I was working really hard, but I kept think...
