The Dark Side of Undercranking

Postby Rob Farr » Thu Jul 07, 2016 10:37 am

According to this Wonkblog article in the Washington Post, millennials are now watching films and TV at accelerated speed with a software program that lowers the pitch of the audio so that it is understandable. It seems to me that if you view film as simply data to be ingested into the brain as quickly as quickly as possible, you are missing the whole point of watching a movie. Think of what is lost in that final shot of Valli walking toward Joseph Cotten in The Third Man if she barrels toward him at triple speed. Does the final shot of City Lights convey nothing except "She looks at the Tramp"? We are really becoming Asperger's Nation.

Are you sure this isn't an article from "The Onion"?

Well, then there are these idiot cinephiles who have to watch a silent film at 12 frames a second because they can't make sense of it at the speed the film was meant to be shown.

So these are our averages today, soulless automatons or nitwits, can somebody direct me to the smart and nice planet?
