I guess I'll start off the Passing Parade with this, although it would have fit in either Classic Radio ro Classic Television just as well.

Don Pardo passed away Monday at his home in Tucson, Arizona:

An amazing broadcasting career, and a fine, long life. In the words of Art Fleming, " Thank You Don Pardo!" and farewell.

Those radio announcers lived long lives. It must had been a stress-free environment for most of them.

As for SNL, Lorne Michaels (or is it Michael's, Jim?) must have quite the persuasive powers. Every time Pardo tried to retire he was coerced back to work SNL only. He tried recording his openings at his Tuscan home and mailing them out, but they still demanded that he be in the studio live. Until he became too infirmed, that is.

It's a wonder that Lorne wasn't able to get The Beatles back together after all....
