Ian Whitcomb RIP

No one lives forever -- except, perhaps, Shirley MacLaine. This is where we ring down the final curtain for Filmdom's finest.

Ian Whitcomb RIP

Postby Richard M Roberts » Tue Apr 21, 2020 10:37 am

Very sad news today, my friend Ian Whitcomb has passed away in Pasadena, Ca at the age of 78.

Ian was perhaps the only rock n'roll star who became an historian and performer of classic music from the early 20th Century, even if others like Harry NIlsson and George Harrison dabbled in it.

Here's Ian performing his top of the pops 1965 hit, YOU TURN ME ON:

But here's Ian the way we knew him, performing with pianist Dick Zimmerman at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1983:

and here's how we really knew him, performing with his Bungalow Boys at Maxwell Demille's Cicada Club in 2012:

Ian was a fixture in the Los Angeles old music scene for decades, and a regular Cinecon attendee, we became friends in the 1990's sharing both our love for old movies and music. He had unfortunately suffered a stroke several years ago and had been in failing health for the last several years, we had last had a meal together at Cinecon in 2017. He will be missed.

We send out our condolences to his wonderful wife Regina, and his Family.

Rest in Peace Ian.
