What stage makeup did actors and comedians use in movies to whiten up their face in the 1900s-1910s?

Good old Max Factor white greasepaint foundation also known as "clown white". Been around and lasts forever, still being made by several companies including Mehron.

I actually has a glob of it on my office window from a film shoot once, I left it on the window for years and it never dried out.

The stuff lasts forever or it is loaded with preservatives. just like you could leave a Hostess Twinkie on a shelf for 50 years and it would still be there with a good size load of dust.
