This isn't really a new subject at all, just a return to an old one that got off topic.

Richard, finally got around to looking at "War Italian Style" again, and you're absolutely right (not that I ever doubted you)...the American version of "Due Marines e un Generale" replaces the rather delightful score by Piero Umiliani with a "wackier" score by one Kendall Schmidt... or, in some places, dispenses of music completely in some of Buster's pantomime scenes, particularly his introduction. It's a shame, since Umiliani gave Buster a charming theme throughout the film, "Dedicato A Buster". Like ATOLL K (and it always seems to come back to ATOLL K!), a big part of "Due Marines" charm is the musical score and, in this case, the U.S. release robs the film of that.
