Well, it looks like SOMEONE has gotten their copy from Flicker Alley, the set already has one five-star review on Amazon:

Up to four five-star reviews today, and I particularly like a quote from Rift Corbett (who joined here some time ago, hello Rift, feel free to post something once in awhile):

"Let's take "Fatty and Mabel Adrift" by far the best it has ever looked on home video and most importantly it runs as close to it's intended speed as Blu-Ray allows. It's actually funny now not like the version on Slapstick Encyclopedia which runs slower than watching grass grow.

Speaking of running speeds on the silents, unlike many efforts by a famous restoration specialist this set is not plagued by the speed of frozen snail trudging frame to frame. Admiring every frame as if it were a museum piece may be very European but that does not make it good. This set actually has all the fun and life intact and those involved should be very proud of their work."

Hmmmm, and just which restoration specialist could Rift be referrin' to?

Agreed but his images/work are still life. Which is the result that i feel when I attempt to watch the "Chaplin at Keystone" set and to a lesser degree the new Mutual box.

Mr. Roberts thanks for the kind words. I only call things as I see [or in this case, view] them. I don't care at all about the politics or technical minutiae only about whether the results looks nice and that most importantly are fun to watch. If it is not then my feeling is a huge missed opportunity that will ultimately result in a lack of any new interest into the genre.

Up to seven five-star reviews so far, and number seven is from our own Ed Watz!

Thank You Ed, and say, I have a spare print of BLACK OXFORDS I might let you have for $300.

Unless you're joking, is that the average price for a 16mm silent comedy two-reeler print?

I'm joking, but in the case of a reasonably rare print, and two nutjobs on ebay determined to get it, you used to be able to fetch prices like that in the good old days, which are long gone.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit this -- but only two years ago I sold a 16mm print of BERTH MARKS on eBay for $656. It was a common Blackhawk sound print with their remade titles. No MGM credits, not the Governor TV print, not the now-scarce silent version -- it was nothing special. You could tell by the hourly action of the two top bidders that common sense logic had gone out the window. I felt so badly for the overseas winning bidder that I picked up shipping & insurance and gave him a discount. And of course it was still ridiculously expensive.

Yes, it is insane to see two out-of control bidders go nuts, and it can indeed happen on some common titles as well (and Laurel and Hardy's seem to be one of them from time to time), but I've also picked up incredibly rare titles for a song just because no one knew what in the hell they were. It is also interesting the number of overseas bidders these days as opposed to in-states collectors who are definitely dwindling, but the market on ebay is definitely not what it was, and ebay has become so criminal in it's fees and general gouging that it is an even more unpleasant place to buy than it used to be. I've basically given up on it, except for supplies or sellers I know personally, because there is too much junk and shady or imcompetent sellers on it.
