Another Classic imd(um)b blunder.....

Postby Richard M Roberts » Sun Aug 24, 2014 7:59 pm

This one’s a doozy, one of the “experts” over at imd(um)b apparently thinks independent film producer C. C. Burr was a woman:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0122991/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1

I give you the imdb bio:

C.C. Burr (1891–1956)
Producer | Miscellaneous Crew | Director
C.C. Burr was born on January 30, 1891 in Brooklyn, New York, USA. She is known for her work on Torchy Turns the Trick (1932), Torchy's Busy Day (1932) and Torchy's Two Toots (1932). She was married to Clemence Amy. She died on June 4, 1956 in Hollywood, California, USA.

Wow, this is big news for the feminist film historians! Forget Alice Guy Blanche’ and Lois Weber, here was a genuine bonafide and successful independent producer of many a successful Johnny Hines Comedy and other films who formed her own Production Company and persevered despite being a female in a male-dominated business! Without Lying Down indeed!

Well, I think CHARLES C. Burr would be a bit shocked to realize that his sexual identity is being questioned in this day and age so long after he is gone. Here is a picture of him with Ray Cook when he was producing the Torchy Comedies for Educational in the early 30’s, in the picture in the lower right-hand corner of the page from the 1931 Motion Picture Herald.

Damn ugly woman, and the attempts at cross-dressing ain’t fooling any of us Charles, or should we say Charlotte………

Strike one more for the boneheads at imdb, nearly beating Nitratevile for History pulled out of their asses, but then again, it’s a lot of the same people at both sites.
