Here's one of those Italian-dubbed reissues of Ridolini's last Vitagraph Comedy, grudgingly released by Vitagraph on March 12, 1924. Directed by Larry Semon and James Davis. Featured with Larry Semon is Oliver Hardy, Carmelita Geraughty, James Donnelly, Curtis McHenry and Bill Hauber:

Thank you Richard, good to finally see the last of Larry's Vitagraphs, Smith was right, it resembles numerous Semon shorts of the last few seasons. I was almost disappointed when a satchel bag containing money didn't show up in the first ten minutes- a common plot point in so many post-1920 Semon comedies. But at least the satchel did put in an appearance, albeit containing a few liquor bottles.

You're welcome Ed, it was very interesting indeed to finally get to see the last Semon Vitagraph, for all the unhappiness Vitagraph had over it, it didn't seem to be cobbled together from outtakes from previous Semon shorts, as some legend postulated. It does not look like a lot of money was spent, and there is nothing especially original there, but Babe Hardy always brings something to it, and the final watertower gag seems to be a new one with some form of variation, at least it does to me, or is it a re-used watertower shot?

Which also brings a question to mind: did Larry Semon have a re-usable water tower or did he destroy a new one each time? Is it like the guard tower in F-TROOP?

There is a Jaimito version of this film with about three more minutes of content.

Spencer Bell did another picnic bit the same year in THE GOLF BUG.

Not many will be impressed as the video quality leaves much to be desired, so one may want to view it on a small screen.

Here's one you don't see much. One of my favorites THE AGENT (1922) has great production values. This recording from the last century looks like an impressionist painting. Hopefully the folks who located the latest TROUBLE BREWING can dig this one up.

Here's a late Larry Vitagraph, LIGHTNING LOVE. Spencer Bell has a good role in this.

View these as soon as you can before they get a copyright strike.

Okay, that's impressive, thanks Tommie.

BTW, that's not Spencer Bell in LIGHTNING LOVE, that's Curtis McHenry in both that and TROUBLE BREWING.
