We comedy buffs live in exciting times and if this set isn’t proof I don’t know what is...

Fifteen titles equals 5 hours-plus of rare Charley Chase by my tally. Guess I’ll just have to drop whatever I’m doing the moment my Blu-Ray arrives!

Richard, Paul, Kit - thank you all for making the impossible POSSIBLE.

BTW, anyone in Great Britain who want to get an advanced look at some of the shorts on the Charley Chase 1927 set, the Kennington Bioscope's SILENT LAUGHTER Festival will be showing our restorations of WHAT WOMEN DID FOR ME, US and ASSISTANT WIVES on November 10th:

Sprocket Vault's CHARLEY CHASE 1927 screeners are in the house!

No hyperbole here, these are among the finest comedies produced by the Hal Roach Studios, every bit as fun, funny, and charming as the Laurel & Hardy or Our Gang shorts from that same time period. More, they often feature the same supporting cast!

This is one of the releases of the decade! I never thought I'd see most of these films, let alone own a copy. Thanks to everyone involved for making the set happen.

It was a treat to have a sneak preview of three of these films - WHAT WOMEN DID FOR ME, US and ASSISTANT WIVES- at the Silent Laughter Weekend last Sunday. (Thanks again Richard, for letting us show the films and providing the introductions). All three were wonderful little films, with US looking especially beautiful. Having seen the excerpt in FOUR CLOWNS, I'd always wondered where he developed the story from there, and the answer is that he does it in wonderfully unique Chase fashion. Some great gags, and Charley's facial reactions at their finest.

We ran ASSISTANT WIVES as part of a 'classic shorts' programme beside Chaplin, Keaton, Lloyd and Laurel & Hardy. And you know what? It might have gone down the best of all the films. A GREAT little short with some wonderful sight gags and reaction comedy. Add in Noah Young, Anita Garvin, Eugene Pallette, Edna Marian and Buddy The Dog, and what more could you want?

I can't wait to see the rest of the set, and will be anxiously checking the mail every day until it arrives.
