Up here in Canada, we had it lucky. We could order Blackhawk films from the U.S. and, when we only had a few dollars in our pockets, we could feed our Laurel & Hardy jones with 50' reels from Walton Films in the UK. The difference between Walton and, say, Atlas or Carnival is that they were actually edited in a coherent manner, so our 3 minutes of silent film actually made sense. Here's a few examples:
