New book on vaudeville career of Marx Brothers - October pub

Postby Robert Moulton » Fri May 06, 2016 1:44 pm

Coming this October the most in depth look at the Marx Brothers' stage career, as we'll likely ever get:

Author is Rob Bader, who released the multi disc Marx Brothers on TV set two years ago. And was also the editor of a Groucho anthology a few years back.

It's finally happening, the book publishes on October 15. Here's a website with some info on the book.

Check out the Who's Who section, it has some pictures of people you may have heard about for years but have never seen a photo of. The section also introduces two new performers who worked with the brothers in their early years, completely unknown till now. This is just the tip of the iceberg of the new information in the book.

The book has published and an initial review in the Wall Street Journal has caused Amazon's entire stock to sell out.

In the mean time you can order directly from the publisher at a reduced price of $25 via this website set up for the book.

It's worth checking the site out just to see the photo of the day. Today's is a photo of a teenaged Groucho in a studio portrait with three other cast members from the melodrama he toured in during 1906/07: The Man of Her Choice.

Just a heads up that Rob Bader appears this week on Gilbert Gottfried's May 15 Podcast.

It's ninety minutes long and moves along rather well since the two interviewers know the subject fairly well themselves and examine more than just the usual questions. Then again since this is Gilbert, he occasionally focuses on the saltier aspects of the book but not for too long.
