Surreal Al St. John Paramount two-reeler filmed at their Astoria (Queens, NY) studio; written by later intimate of Groucho's and distinguished screenwriter Nunnally Johnson (THE GRAPES OF WRATH, 1940), directed by Eddie Cline, who was helming the studio's East Coast comedy unit. Paramount's exterior doubles as the courthouse at the end of the short. I love that Al's fiancé Kitty (played by Aileen Cook), has a slew of acrobatic brothers, all of whom sound like they just got off the boat at Ellis Island.

"But what about the Mann Act?"
