The way the names Clarence Moorehouse and "The Gorilla" are presented separately in the cast list in the film's main titles suggests they are two different characters.

I guess it sure would be helpful to see the film, or at least some stills from it.

Coincidence! One might say that pre-production started on ME that day too. That is the exact day my Mom was born. (I came along several years later...)
