I have to admit that I know little abou the releases of the EDITION FILMMUSEUM, other than the fact that they look fantastic and that they're most welcome. Particularly these two:

Scroll down and you'll see that "Next releases" include "Female Comedy Teams Hal Roach, 1929-1935" and "Max Davidson Comedies Leo McCarey, 1927-1928".

Cover art is posted for both:

I've signed up for their newsletter, so hopefully I'll know a release date as soon as it's announced.

Chris,
Posted about them today too! viewtopic.php?f=5&t=292

I have a couple Edition Filmmuseum discs ("Bling Husbands" and "Die elf Teufel & König der Mittelstürmer") and they do an EXCELLENT job and transfers and presenting the films with correct intertitles, and they are region free. Just can't wait to see a listing of what's on the discs.

Ha! I didn't even notice that!
Glad to see your "stamp of approval" on previous releases, I'm quite looking forward to these. Like you, I'm veeerrrry interested in the contents, but what's interesting to me is the inclusion of some Todd/Kelly shorts, as well as at least one Anita Garvin/Marion Byron title, which I assume will be "A Pair of Tights" (I've been waiting to replace my super-8 print for ages!).
A pair of must-haves, to be sure, and perhaps a harbinger of even greater things to come from the Roach library!
Chris

I was recently forwarded links to the contents of these two sets.

It's clear that the female teams set is aimed at being a "best of" set rather than a "complete" collection. The Davidson set is closer to a "complete" set (a third disc probably would have actually accomplished that). Still, all in all, some pretty good stuff on these sets.

Let's hope the scores and speeds are up to snuff.

Yes, let's hope they get the silents' speeds right! They've gone this far and these are too good to be spoiled by too-slow speeds.

How perfect it would have been if they had been able to include "Going Ga-Ga" (the one of the three Anita Garvin - Marion Byron series not included...and co-starring Max D.!) That would heve made this set all the more definitive and essential. That short is too good to remain locked up. Someone's got to do some restoration on that one and get it out there.

I see the Max Davidson listing includes notes from Robert Farr.
Rob, did they just take info from an old article, such as from "Griffithiana" or did you write something new for them? And if it's old, did you even know they were using it?

Yep, they lifted the Griffithiana article without so much as a heads up. But at least they credited it to me unlike other web sites (remember the late Silents Majority?). Hey, if it helps in some small way to sell Max discs, more power to them.

I think that if they lifted your article to sell the discs, I hope that they at least give you a free set ( well, one set from each collection).

I say you send an enforcer over and drop them into the Rhine river.

Last week in Oslo during the FIAF/JTS congress, I had a chance to chat with Stefan Droessler on the progress of the Davidson DVD, the reconstruction and transfer work and the research he did for the supplements, and it sounds like a great release and labor of love indeed. Of course Stefan is well aware of the accomplishments of Rob and other silent comedy scholars, and he would very much welcome any involvement and contributions the likes of Rob, Richard, David K., Paul et al. might be able and willing to add to this project! In fact, he tried to register here for that reason but without success; maybe the admins could look into this, I recall registration glitches myself when joining this board. Or email or PM me for Stefan's contact info...
