The Pordenone Festival “discovered” POOL SHARKS, THE GOLF SPECIALIST and CHESS FEVER? I would hate to think they are that much out of the loop, but the first two are extremely common titles, and even the Russian short is far from anyone’s idea of rare and scarce.

Then again, Pordenone thought they "discovered" Max Davidson back in 1994 too.

i also hear that HIS LORDSHIPS DILEMMA was rediscovered in Belgium, anyone else have any info on this?

Hi Richard
The Silent Era and some other web sites have mentioned HIS LORDSHIP'S DILEMMA turning up in a Belgian film collection, but so far there hasn't been any solid evidence to make it certain.

The only source that I've seen converning this discovery mentioned is www.silentera.com. His Lordship's Dilemma is listed on this page as a rediscovery: http://www.silentera.com/PSFL/data/H/Hi ... a1915.html

I've corresponded with website owner Carl Bennett about this and it has all the hallmarks of a chimera: Shadowy private collector in Europe who wishes to remain anonymous won't or can't produce a print or any physical evidence of said print.

No doubt the late F. Gwynplaine McIntyre saw it before he died, but it's still lost as far as I'm concerned.

I thought it sounded too goo to be true. Stamp it BS until it shows at Slapsticon or somewhere else.

There's also a Wikipedia entry for the film that's picked up the info from The Silent Era site.

Slapstick Silent Comedy Gala @ Colston Hall – 28th January
Posted on January 11, 2011 by Laura
The Colston Hall, Bristol presents the Slapstick Silent Comedy Gala on Friday 28th January at 7.30pm, with special guests Barry Cryer, Neil Innes, Ian Lavender and Bill Oddie.

Bristol’s Slapstick Comedy Festival invites you to a star-studded evening of classic onscreen silent comedy and live entertainment.

This once in a life-time event presents four of the funniest classic silent comedies on the big screen featuring: Laurel & Hardy in We Faw Down (1928) , Buster Keaton’s Neighbours (1920), Charlie Chaplin in One A.M. (1916) and the effervescent Harold Lloyd in Get Out and Get Under (1920).

Each film will be introduced by one of the UK’s finest comic performers and writers.

Barry Cryer is one of Britain’s finest comic writers having worked with everyone from John Cleese to Morecambe and Wise and is a core member of Radio 4′s I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue team. Ian Lavender’s roles as Private Pike in Dad’s Army and Derek Harkinson in Eastenders has firmly established him as one of Britain’s favourite comic and dramatic actors. Bill Oddie, well known for his BBC wildlife programmes, first became a household name as one third of ‘The Goodies’ themselves celebrated for their extraordinary visual comedy. Neil Innes is the legendary Bonzo Dog front man, Rutle and Ego Warrior, often described as ‘The Seventh Python’.

The films are accompanied live by two world class ensembles Jazz Train, the marvellous 25 piece youth big band from Saaland, Germany plus The European Silent Screen Virtuosi featuring triple Oscar-winning animator and jazz cornetist Richard Williams and world-acclaimed silent film maestro Günter Buchwald on violin and piano, along with his international friends. With Chris Serle as ‘Master of Ceremonies’ and special guest vocal performances from Neil Innes and actor Paul McGann this gala is truly a once in a life-time opportunity to see the funniest silent comedy, along with some of our best loved British comedy performers, promising to be bigger, better and funnier than ever!

Part of the 2011 Slapstick Festival.
