In this masterpiece of silent comedy, The Boy (Harold Lloyd) leaves his small town for success in the big city. He lands a job as a salesclerk at a department store but writes home of being an executive to impress The Girl (Mildred Davis).
After a series of misadventures, Lloyd ends up scaling the building as a publicity stunt for the store. His climb up the skyscraper (located half a block from the Orpheum Theatre, where the film will screen) was shot decades before computer-generated special effects, and the image of Lloyd hanging off the face of a large clock is one of the most famous in film history. Print and film still courtesy of Harold Lloyd Entertainment, Inc.
Special Program: Hosted by Suzanne Lloyd (granddaughter of Harold Lloyd); live accompaniment of the film by Robert Israel on the Orpheum's original Mighty Wurlitzer organ; Buster Keaton short film, Cops (1922), also with live organ accompaniment.
