MYSTERY HAM AND BUD STILL

Hello, photo experts----Here's an odd still from the HAM AND BUD series. Ham is in his full garbageman chic outfit, slapshoes in hand, threatening Bud in a hospital room. The odd thing is that the Budster is in normal, human being street clothes. I'm guessing it was just an odd candid, Bud not officially appearing in the scene being shot. Who are the fellows with Ethel Teare?

I wonder if this was a gag still from the period when Ham was actually laid up in the hospital after the accident that shattered his leg. It looks like he could have been costumed and made up from the waist up and photographed while being visited by his cast and crew members. Could one of the non-actors be a young William Beaudine? Ham's other director at the time of his accident was Rube Miller, but neither look like him.

I was wondering if the leg accident helped acerbate his drinking
or was that already a by-product of his personality?

Actually Rob, now that you mention it, the mustached fellow in the dark suit, does look quite a bit like William Beaudine.

Hi Guys, and Happy New Year!
Definitely not Rube Miller in the dark suit with Ham and Bud.
I'm 100% sure it is in fact, like Rob & Joe suggest: William Beaudine.
The girl is Ethel Teare; don't recognize the guy second from right.

It is William Beaudine. I can post a photo of Chance Ward if you're interested.

Definitely William Beaudine.

By the way, last Saturday David Hayes and I were interviewed (along with Leo Gorcey Jr. and Gabe Dell Jr.) for a Bowery Boys documentary, which was in the old screening room at KCET-TV in Los Angeles, which had been Monogram/Allied Artists. However, going way back, it was Lubin, Kalem and Charles Ray Productions, among others. There's a wall photo history case outside with shots of the location in different eras. One photo of the Kalem studios says "View of the Kalem Studios, where the Ham and Bud Comedies were made." So priorities are straight there! I'm just hoping that when Scientology takes over the studio next year, they keep the history photos.

They'll end up in Tom Cruise's den......or Travolta's airplane hangar.
