Footage will be restored to Kino Blu-ray of SHERLOCK JR.

Postby Jeffrey Nelson » Tue Jul 06, 2010 11:54 pm

Word is that the upcoming Blu-ray of SHERLOCK JR. will have the missing footage reinstated to the billiards scene. From a post by Rodney Sauer regarding the film at Nitrateville:

And also, I prompted Bret Wood to look for that darn missing pool shot, and after looking through about four 35mm prints, he and Tim Lanza found one that had it. So the pool game will be more complete.

Great news, eh?

Any other word on what might be added to the new edition, so I'm not upgrading to blu-ray for the sake of a few (undeniably valuable) seconds? :)

Yep, a score by Mont Alto, so Clubfoot will no longer be the only listening option, thank god. Yet another reason to upgrade. This baby will be mine when it hits the street.

A baby hitting the street is a rather uneasy thought, perhaps even in the Cruel and Unusual Comedy series!

But anyways, specs are now out on amazon:

SHERLOCK, JR.: Music by The Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra in 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround and 2.0 Stereo, Music by The Club Foot Orchestra, Vintage jazz score compiled by Jay Ward, 15 minute documentary on the making of the film, Audio commentary by historian David Kalat, Stills gallery. THREE AGES SPECIAL FEATURES: Music arranged and directed by Robert Israel in 2.0 Stereo, Organ Score by Lee Erwin, Piano score, Man's Genesis (1912): A nine-minute excerpt of the D.W. Griffith prehistoric romance that inspired Keaton s parody, Visual essay on the film s locations by Silent Echoes author John Bengston, Three Ages re-cut as a trio of stand alone short films.

Actually, that "Making of Sherlock Jr." documentary is 23 minutes long.

From Kino site --

Widely regarded as one of the most visually inventive silent comedies ever made, SHERLOCK JR. offers fast-paced slapstick as well as a brilliant deconstruction of the filmmaking process. Keaton stars as a movie theatre projectionist who dreams of becoming a super-sleuth and, in one breathtaking sequence, literally steps into the screen to bring his fantasies to life.

Another comedy for film-lovers (that plays upon the conventions of cinema), THREE AGES is a clever spoof of D.W. Griffith’s Intolerance. In Keaton’s multi-narrative epic, man’s primal quest for love is played out in the Stone Age, Ancient Rome, and the Jazz Age.

The films in this collection have been mastered in HD from archival 35mm elements, authorized by the Buster Keaton Estate.

Special Features:

SHERLOCK JR.

* Music by The Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra in 2.0 stereo & 5.1 surround
* Music by the Club Foot Orchestra (2.0)
* Vintage jazz score compiled by Jay Ward
* Audio commentary by film historian David Kalat
* Documentary short on the making of the film, written by film historian David B. Pearson with Patricia Eliot Tobias, President of the International Buster Keaton Society.
* Visual essay on the film’s locations by Silent Echoes author John Bengtson

THREE AGES

* Music arranged and directed by Robert Israel in 2.0 stereo
* Organ score by Lee Erwin
* Piano score
* Man’s Genesis (1912): a nine-minute excerpt of the D.W. Griffith prehistoric romance that inspired Keaton’s parody
* Visual essay on the film’s locations by Silent Echoes author John Bengtson
* Three Ages re-cut as a trio of stand-alone short films.

This product will ship to arrive by its release date of November 19th, 2010.

Looks good, but personally I still haven't seen a release yet that would make me want to buy a blu-ray.
