Malibu Actor's Colony Home Movie, 1930
Posted by Patrick Laurence, Bert Wheeler's great grandson:
"16 mm home movie footage of many Hollywood luminaries having fun on the beach at the famed Malibu Colony of the 1930s. As far as I can tell, the beach party in the latter part of the footage was hosted in August 1930 by director Wesley Ruggles to welcome his brother Charles Ruggles to Hollywood (Wesley is likely holding the camera most of the time but can be seen reeling in a fish at 1:14; Charles is seen throughout, initially wearing a visor). The comedy team of Bert Wheeler and Robert Woolsey can be seen in the first minute (and again at 5:06) along with their wives, Bernice and Mignonne; others uknown. Also seen: Joe E. Brown, Jack Dempsey, Eddie Cantor, Estelle Taylor, Warner Baxter, and many others. The musical accompaniment is original."

There are many others here that you'll have fun identifying, William Haines appears near the end along with numerous starlets. A very sunburned Sam Hardy provides one of the best closeups ever committed to celluloid.
