Re: CHARLEY CHASE AT HAL ROACH: THE LATE SILENTS 1927 Coming in November.........

Charley Chase ’27 is in The House! . Here’s my review: It's no secret that Charley Chase was one of the greatest (and funniest) comedians of silent movies. At his height in the 1920s, he turned out dozens of two-reel comedy gems one after another. Today his films are enjoyed and revered by a huge f...

The Voice of Hollywood (1931) Harlow, Lugosi, Walter Huston

"This short features rare footage of Jean Harlow, Bela Lugosi discussing ‘Dracula,' and Walter Huston performing a musical number. It survives in fragmentary form.” Starts out routine, but soon becomes the best Voice of Hollywood entry I’ve ever seen. https://youtu.be/MRNQ8PUIWPg?si=n4E2FQprCzZ...

Re: For Your Consideration: CHARLEY CHASE SPEAKING in 1926 (via AI)

I didn’t care for this at all. No inflection or discernable accent in the voice, which (to me) sounds nothing like Charley Chase. It sounds more like the actor who voiced the giraffe in the MADAGASCAR movies. Animating an iconic portrait of Charley into something so robotic was outright creepy. YouT...

Re: It's Here!

This use of A.I. is all the more remarkable considering the creator's comment: all of the footage cobbled together comes from different versions of THE BATTLE OF THE CENTURY that was found on YouTube. No Blu-ray, DVD or film was sourced, just YouTube. If low-res can be upgraded with A.I. to show cla...

L&H, Our Gang, Max Davidson billboards at Hal Roach Studios

Hollywood Travelogue from the late 1920s showing exterior wall of the Hal Roach Studios with billboards of Laurel & Hardy, Our Gang, and the edge of a Max Davidson billboard (Max’s is a tantalizing loss - and Charley Chase's signage is also missing). A blurred L&H billboard can also be spott...

Re: CHARLEY CHASE AT HAL ROACH: THE LATE SILENTS 1927 Coming in November.........

We comedy buffs live in exciting times and if this set isn’t proof I don’t know what is... Fifteen titles equals 5 hours-plus of rare Charley Chase by my tally. Guess I’ll just have to drop whatever I’m doing the moment my Blu-Ray arrives! Richard, Paul, Kit - thank you all for making the impossible...

Re: Oldies.com Sprocket Vault Sale

Hi Ed. I bought an external BR drive and to my great delight, it’s region-free. So I’m going to be picking up some Eureka discs, especially L&H: Y1 for Chris Seguin’s and David Kalat’s commentaries. What country has the cheapest international shipping rates? Rob, your best bet with internationa...
