So one of the nerds at nitwitvile's screaming voices in his head has to know whether or not the Hanschliegeling in THE LIGHTER THAT FAILED is original or digitized, and Gebert is SHOCKED!---SHOCKED!---that Ed Watz, per our own production policies, is not going to answer that question. "That's one of the main things we talk about here!" cries Gebert.
Well, that's part of the many of Nitwitviles problems Mike, the nerds are so concerned about crap like bitrates or missing frames, true black or was the OCN from the right side of the mountain rather than actually watching the films and perhaps laughing at the gags. Those sort of discussions, especially among these self-titled "experts" is nothing but wanking of the lowest order. As Producers, Reconstructionists and Showmen, we consider that sort of nonsense behind the curtain work, and frankly none of the audience's business. Magicians do not show the audience how the trick is done.
Will Andybenz's virgin eyeballs be offended and he be unable to enjoy THE LIGHTER THAT FAILED ever again if he discovered that Paul Gierucki rather than Mr. Hanschliegel personally crayoned those frames? If so, he needs to get laid and think of things more important. If Andybenz cannot tell, he doesn't need to know. We don't even give you warning in advance if a print is not up to the ridiculous and unrealistic expectations of some of the general nerd population, we let you figure that out for yourselves, and our advice to you is "get over it". If the un-warned discovery that a print is not pristine is too much of a horrible blow to you, come over here a bit closer and I'll show you what a real smack on the head feels like.
You see, we are actually more concerned about the entertainment value of the films we put out over internerdling about things Earth People could really care less about. Leave the nerdnicks to populate your sorry little site Gebert, we're into having fun over here.

Re: NItrateville Nerdumb Slapping Dept: Trailer: Charley Chase at Hal Roach The Late Silents 1927
So Gebert's skin's so thin he's locked the thread on the Chase set because he gets a little criticism over here, as if what we say over here actually affects anything at Nitwitvile to anyone reading over there (I know we get more hits than that sorry little site, but no one forces anyone to come over here, the narrowly blinded n-vile readers wouldn't have noticed it save he linked it on his site himself). He is now locking his own threads where no actual uncivility occurred. What a pantywaist.
So Nitwitvile shows itself once again to be a petty little fiefdom that really cares little about actually promoting the exhibition and distribution of vintage films but really wants to just be a controlling place limiting actual opinions for protection of the pathetic few who stoke their own pathetic egos by posting there, spouting their own who cares opinions safe in the knowledge that Gebert will scrub any naysaying.
Well, he can't scrub the naysaying over here, and it isn't like promoting the set on that sorry little site actually sells us very many copies. Gebert continues not to learn the lesson he should have learned over a decade ago and continues to prove his pettiness. Would we expect any less?

Hey Gebert, I may not agree with Mr Roberts 1/3 of the time but you damage the silent film community in ways your tiny little mind simply does have the ability to comprehend.
Remind me again Gebert what have you have ever done to bring properly restored silents to the public??? Oh and the DNR'd to death waxy looking horseshit that Harvat releases don't count nor does your censorship!
With the Chase set alone, Roberts and Paul G have done more for silents that you could do in 100 of your lifetimes!

Well thank you Rift for those feisty words of support, makes me glad I defended you against David Shepard all those years ago.

Richard, much like Fox-Movietone News, your work speaks for itself. As I'm fond of saying, thanks to people like you, we can continue to have nice things. Aside from Ben Model, Steve Massa, and a few others, there's not many on N'ville that can make that claim.

Thank you William, I think pretty much everyone in the real Film Preservation world has Nitwitviles number, and Gebert continues to show himself the main enabler of the nonsense over there. I was really calling out Gebert much more then the andybenz guy (if that is a real name or a made-up moniker, who knows?), Benz actually apologized for asking the question and not understanding our policies and his reason for asking, though still a pointless nerd question (the commentary track for LIGHTER THAT FAILED states that the material utilized was a bootleg 9.5 print, so what would it matter if Pathe' only released a handful of stencil-colored titles in 9.5mm, they obviously had nothing to do with the aforementioned print in any case.), but Gebert had to comment then close a thread that actually has no incivility on it in any fashion, probably he has been looking for a reason to do so for some time considering the grudge he has against me, but hypocritically he has to search for the flimsiest excuses to do so.
Well, if Mr. G is going to pull that sort of pettiness, perhaps we need to keep a closer eye and comment a bit more than late on the general stupidity there. Gad, that would mean wasting more time reading that drivel, but like stupid tiktok videos there is always troves of material to work with.

I see Steve Massa (w/Music by Model) has a Kickstarter for an Arbuckle Blu-ray. Before I donate I'm seeking opinions on his past restorations efforts. I am especially interested in NON slow frame rates as well as lack of Digital Noise Reduction. I'm not a fan how the waxy shiny look it produces when the film grain is removed.
I do know here in SCM I will get honest opinions!

Well, I'm sure Massa is going to use the same restorationists Ben Model uses, so they should be okay. But don't expect much promotion about their sets from us.

I love it when the people actually being assholes try to take the high ground:

Sorry Geb, you and your sorry little site are the ones being jerks here, and you apparently can't take any criticism, especially when you see it coming from some of your own members. That's also called not getting the message, even some people who post on your site know and understand the problems you have and cause with your own little fiefdom, and they come over here where they know it is safe to voice them. You can't deal with it and rev up your denial mechanisms to try to feel righteous. Pathetic.
