Searching for the Title of a Biograph Film

Postby Thomas Reeder » Fri Jan 16, 2026 8:27 am

I need some help identifying a Biograph film released sometime in late 1910 or early 1911. Here is a quote from an interview in 1916 about an event that took place in the latter half of 1910:

“One day on Broadway I met Edwin August, a St. Louisan, who then was starring in pictures for D. N. [sic] Griffith…. I was down to my last dollar. August introduced me to Griffith, who invited me to visit, on the next day, a location at Fort Lee, on the Hudson River, where August was being filmed as the hero in a play.
“In one of the scenes the hero had to rescue a girl and swim the Hudson. It was November, and the river was icy cold. For such tasks as these a substitute usually is hired. Griffith called for volunteers, offering $10 to any man who would swim the river. I volunteered.”

Can anyone suggest what this film’s title may have been? Any help you can provide will save me a lot of time trying to track this down on my own. Many thanks in advance.
